Language Arts (6G, 6H, 6I)

 Good Times in The Maritimes

Our Language Arts classes (6G, 6H and 6I) will embark on an enrichment study of The Maritime Provinces beginning in November. This study entails three parts, the first of which immerses students in the topic through the use of books, magazines, guest speakers, perhaps a field trip, music, photographs, internet websites, slide shows, videos, films, and many artifacts.
Another component of the first part is an Interest Development Center. This center will be located in a dedicated spot in the classroom. I am looking for everyone’s help in order to establish this center. I’m sure the children will enjoy bringing in the items in to add to our interest center. I will ensure the safety of any items you may have at home which can be contributed.
The second part of the study involves students in decision making activities, learning how to problem solve, as well as brainstorming and webbing exercises to assist in making their study plans.
The third part of the enrichment study involves students determining their own interest areas, choosing what most interested them from the first part. They also choose the path their research will take, and are also involved in problem focusing.
The independent study leads to the development of their chosen product. Students combine their acquired knowledge and skills with their interests and creativity to develop the product. Students will share, demonstrate, and perform from their independent studies for their invited audience upon completion of their products.
Thank you for your support in this exciting endeavor.
